Das im September 1987 von der Gesellschaft der Freunde der Glaskunst Richard Süßmuth e.V. und der Stadt Immenhausen eröffnete Museum hat im umgestalteten Generatorgebäude der Glashütte Süßmuth seinen Platz gefunden. Grundstückserwerb und Umbauarbeiten erfolgten durch die Stadt mit Unterstützung durch das Hessische Ministerium für Wirtschaft und Technik und den Landkreis Kassel. Im gestalterisch eng an das alte Industriegebäude angelehnte Haus betreibt die Gesellschaft der Freunde der Glaskunst das Museum. Es ist eines der wenigen Spezialmuseen für Glas in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland.

El museo de vidrio de Immenhausen fue inaugurado en 1987 por iniciativa de la Sociedad de amigos del arte en vidrio Richard Süßmuth y el gobierno municipal de Immenhausen, en el edificio de la vidriería de Süßmuth. Es uno de los pocos museos de Alemania dedicados específicamente al arte en vidrio.
